Use the CSV import/export feature to mass-rename claimed Airtame devices that were pre-claimed via zero-touch deployment. This is the fastest way to replace placeholder names (like serial numbers) with clear, location-specific names before the devices are actively connected.
⚠️ Important note on device status
This feature applies only to devices that have been claimed but are not yet actively connected. Devices that are currently online must be renamed individually through the device settings page.
Step-by-step guide to mass rename pre-claimed devices
- Navigate to the list of claimed devices in the zero-touch deployment section.
- Click on the Rename devices button.
- Click Download file to generate and download a template CSV file containing a list of every claimed device.
-
Review and edit the file:
The CSV contains two essential columns:
- Current name: Lists the device's existing name. DO NOT EDIT THIS COLUMN. It serves as the unique identifier.
- Desired name: This is where you will input the new name for the device (e.g., "HR Meeting room," "Lobby kiosk").
- Save the finalized list as a CSV file (comma-separated).
- In Airtame Cloud, click Upload file and select the CSV file.
Handling errors
If the system encounters an error during the upload (e.g., if the Current name column was modified or there was a file encoding issue), an error notification will appear. This notification will detail which lines or entries need correction. You can then edit your CSV and re-upload the corrected file.
The names of your claimed devices will be updated instantly. When the physical devices connect for the first time, they will automatically adopt these new names, ensuring your deployment starts with a clear, organized device list.
