In line with Google's official plan and Google’s policies to phase out Chrome Apps in favour of modern web technologies, Airtame are transitioning all ChromeOS users to a new, browser-based screen sharing solution.
Airtame is committed to providing a seamless and powerful screen sharing experience. This move allows users to leverage the latest technology, like WebRTC, to deliver a more reliable and feature-rich service directly from your browser—no installation needed.
A New Way to Share from Your Chromebook
We have already removed the old Airtame Chromebook application from the Chrome Web Store. Moving forward, all ChromeOS users should use the Airtame Web App.
Easy Instructions for All Users:
Transitioning is simple. To share your screen from a Chromebook:
- Open your Chrome browser.
- Navigate to app.airtame.com (or go to airtame.com/go).
- Enter the IP address or Pairing Code displayed on the Airtame-equipped screen.
- Click "Share screen" and choose what you want to share.
For quick access, we recommend bookmarking app.airtame.com in your Chrome browser.
Information for IT Administrators
While the legacy Chrome App can still be deployed using the Google Admin console for a limited time, we strongly recommend you begin transitioning your organization to the browser-based solution at app.airtame.com.
This new platform is our primary focus for future development on ChromeOS, and we will be adding key features in the coming months, including:
- Automatic discovery of nearby Airtame devices.
- The ability to share to multiple screens simultaneously.
According to Google's timeline, support for admin-installed Chrome Apps will end. Here are the key dates:
- July 2025: Support ends for any remaining user-installed Chrome Apps. Admin-installed apps will continue to function.
- February 2028: Final end-of-life for all Chrome Apps. After this date, the legacy application will no longer be supported or function on any version of ChromeOS.
To ensure a smooth transition, we advise you to start directing your users to app.airtame.com and consider pushing a bookmark to their devices via the Google Admin console.
