Miracast lets presenters use the built-in screen-sharing functionality of their Windows devices meaning that the Airtame app is not required. The connection goes over the local network (LAN). Initial discovery is still done in a P2P (Peer-to-peer) mode, but no APs need to be enabled.
How to enable Miracast on your Airtame device(s)
Requirements
-
The Airtame device needs to be running firmware version 4.1.0 or higher.
-
Miracast needs to be enabled in Airtame Cloud.
-
The Airtame device needs to be connected to a secured WiFi or hooked up via Ethernet.
-
The supported operating system is Windows 10 (version 1703 and above).
-
Discovery takes place in P2P mode even when utilizing Miracast over Infrastructure, so a presenter needs to be within proximity of the Airtame-equipped display to get started.
-
TCP port 7250 and 7236 needs to be enabled in both directions as it’s required for Miracast traffic.
-
Miracast over Infrastructure relies on mDNS for discovery, so UDP port 5353 should be enabled on the network in both directions. During discovery, the Airtame device also sends its IP address in WiFi beacon frames.
-
If the Airtame device and PC are in different VLANs/subnets, mDNS needs to be configured across VLANs. Learn more: Set up auto-discovery and multicast routing between VLANs.
Considerations
Miracast over Infrastructure is a Microsoft extension that does not support Android or earlier versions of Windows. If presenters in your organization use these devices, there are alternative ways to support them. One option is to use Miracast P2P, and another is to use Miracast over Infrastructure for newer Windows devices, and Google Cast for Android devices. Like Miracast over Infrastructure, Google Cast does not need Airtame’s access points to be enabled.
If an environment supports both a P2P connection and a connection via Infrastructure, the Windows PC will decide which type of Miracast connection to use. Since this is a Windows native feature, Airtame cannot influence this process. Based on testing, Windows tends to default to the P2P connection.
If you have enabled the PIN code, then you will be prompted to enter a 4- or 8-PIN that you will see on the screen that your Airtame is connected to. This PIN code will be required every time the Airtame reboots but not when the scheduled Sleep Mode ends.
By default, Miracast on Windows comes with multiple streaming modes which can affect performance and picture quality.

How to present from an Android device
The steps to mirror from your Android might vary depending on your device. The most common ways are either by using "Smart View", "Screen mirroring", "Quick Connect" or through the Cast settings on your phone.
Present with a touchback
As of firmware update 4.1.0, Airtame supports Touchback with Miracast. More information about the setup can be found here: Touchback with Miracast.
