Stream disconnects occur when a part of the communication between the client computer and Airtame is disrupted (Computer<->Network<->Airtame). This can happen because of instabilities like app crashes or poor WiFi signal but the most common reasons are WiFi roaming and network configurations. 

Basic Issues

  1. Poor signal strength: Often people's WiFi is good enough for loading but not good enough for real time streaming. This is because of information being lost in transmission. Click here to learn how to improve.
  2. Too much useage on the network: It is recommended to have one wifi antenna for each room. If not, it could be that having many people in one office/room with their PCs and mobile phones are saturating the network and bottlenecking the WiFi. Consider using a ethernet or improving your setup.
  3. Long up-time: The device has been running non stop for a long time and can benefit from a reboot. Use Airtame.cloud to reboot all your devices at once.
  4. Bandwidth Limits: Other apps can temporarily pause Airtame's network traffic to gain more bandwidth. Synchronizing apps like dropbox, onedrive and google drive are the most likely to cause this on older computers.

Advanced Network Configurations

  1. Session Timeout: If you have "Session Timeout" enabled in your network controller it will help to increase the length of this timeout or disable it all together.
  2. RADIUS Session-Timeout: For Enterprise setups, if you have a "Session Timeout" set up on your RADIUS server, try increasing the time of this timeout or disable it completely.
  3. Pre-Authentication: Try enabling "Authentication" inside of "Pre-authentication" in your wireless controller. This feature's naming can change from system to system but is usually known as PMK Caching or OKC.
  4. Interference: Are your wireless access points interfering with each other? You should aim for Airtame to receive a wifi signal strength of more than -60db from one access point. Failure to obtain a strong signal strength will cause the Airtame to ROAM between different access points, running the risk of losing the stream.
  5. Lease Timeout: DHCP servers by default timeout IP addresses leased to devices like Airtame. Increasing this Timeout length will reduce the number of times that network traffic will be halted.
  6. Minimum RSSI value (RF Parameters): Some networks have been configured to drop Wireless connections that show an RSSI value below a certain number. If this value is too strict, ie -65dBm, the Airtame may be getting disconnected from the network unnecessarily.

  7. QoS: "Quality of Service" can give network priority to Airtame over other devices like mobile phones, ensuring that Airtames stream is never held back because of other devices using the network. QoS can be enabled on the streaming ports 8001 + 8002 or based on Airtame's MAC address.
