Use the Airtame Hub Access Point to Stream

If you don't want to or can't connect your Airtame device to a network, you can also make use of it by connecting directly to the Airtame's own Access Point, but you will only be able to stream offline content. 

How to configure the Access Point:

1. During the setup, you will be asked to choose between WiFi, Ethernet (wired network), or Ad-hoc.

2. Choose Ad-hoc.

3. Once the Airtame application has finalized the setup you will be able to select OK and start streaming to the Airtame by connecting to its Access Point. 

How to connect to the Access Point:

1. Open the WiFi list of your computer or mobile device.

2. You will be able to see the name of your Airtame device and select it.

3. Open the Airtame app, your device should show up automatically on the list. 

4. Start streaming by selecting "Share screen" or "Share window".

Airtame access points (APs):

When using the Airtame as an Ad-hoc network you establish a connection with one of Airtame's APs, therefore disabling it from establishing another connection. Moving forward you can either integrate Airtame into your own WiFi network (recommended) or you can stream to the device in the so-called Ad-hoc mode (directly connected to it).

By using a WiFi scanner, you can determine which channel, in your environment, is less congested, therefore switching to that channel, will most likely improve the signal strength, resulting in better streaming performance.

Customizing Access Points

There are different variations of how you can manage the access points on Airtame:

1. Dual AP mode: Both APs are enabled, allowing anyone to connect to Airtame.

2. WiFi + AP: One of the APs is connected to your own WiFi network, while the second one is open, enabling guests to connect to Airtame.

3. WiFi only: One of Airtame's APs is connected to your WiFi network, while the second one is disabled. This way Airtame is strictly isolated within your network, allowing anyone connected to that network to start a stream.

You can always enable dual AP mode by holding the button on Airtame for 3 seconds. This is useful if, for example, you would like to connect Airtame to another network but you're not able to access the device management panel (which is accessible when you connect to Airtame's AP/hotspot).

WiFi forwarding

Airtame’s own ad-hoc wireless network does not provide internet access, but it provides a direct link between your connected device and the Airtame. This allows a user to share local content from the stream from the device to the Airtame in a direct peer-2-peer link. The Airtame’s  WiFi forwarding feature allows you to bridge the Airtame’s own ad-hoc wireless network to the local networks configured on your Airtame device which could be used to provide internet access to a user who is connected to the Airtame’s own ad-hoc wireless network. 

Enabling the Airtame device’s WiFi forwarding will give users connected to Airtame’s own access point direct access to the other networks configured on the Airtame. If you have an Ethernet connection on your Airtame or a WiFi connection to your local network, WiFi forwarding will give anyone connected to the Airtame’s own ad-hoc wireless network access to those networks and the resources on them.
By default, WiFi forwarding is disabled.  

Reasons to use Wifi Forwarding: 

• You only have one WiFi network that guests will not have access to. In this way, you can have the guests access the Airtame and internet via the Airtame's AP.

• You have the Airtame device connected via Ethernet and you need guests or WiFi only devices to be able to stream to the Airtame, as well as have an internet connection.

Reasons not to use WiFi Forwarding:

• You are concerned about your network security and do not want unknown users accessing any internal network resources.

• You do not want to bridge your internal network to any other network.

Password protection

Enabling a password for Airtame's APs means that whenever someone tries to connect to the WiFi network created by Airtame, they will be asked for a password. You can choose a password in the "custom" field in the settings, or have Airtame generate a random one that will stay the same. In either case, the password can be shown on the home screen by editing the home screen Overlay text.
