Airtame 2 and security

As a product designed for organizations, you may have questions about Airtame and security. Keep reading to find answers to some of our most commonly asked security questions.

Q: Is the stream Encrypted?

A: While the steam is not encrypted via Airtame, it is encrypted by your WiFi. For an attacker to view your stream, they would first need to hack into your network, and then also reverse engineer Airtame's Streaming protocol. When streaming using Airtame, the video feed of your screen never leaves your network. Additionally, Airtame will not collect or store any information regarding the content of the stream. Extend security by using our recommended setup.

Q: What stops someone from streaming without permission?

A:  The"PIN Code" feature of Airtame prevents accidental or malicious streams from other rooms. A random four-digit code is shown on the screen during the start of each new stream, which must then be typed into the app. Users will need to be present within the room or within sight of the display for them to be able to start a stream.

Q: Can Airtame bridge its WiFi and Ethernet connections?

A: Airtame supports two networks on one device - one via Ethernet and one via WiFi. In most cases, the Internal network is connected via Ethernet and guests via WiFi. These two interfaces are handled separately by the firmware logic and routing tables, and therefore cannot be bridged.

Q: Can I lock the device's settings? Or prevent someone from changing the configuration?

A: Airtame's settings panel can be locked with a password from within the device's settings. When applying settings, HTTPS encryption is used between the managing computer and the Airtame being managed.

Q: Is Airtame Cloud secure?

A: Airtame Cloud sends information over the internet meaning extra security measures are taken to ensure no information is ever at risk. In addition, sensitive information such as passwords and web URLs, are never shared with the cloud.

The Airtame cloud solution is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), which is recognized for its high level of security. Airtame uses an AWS data center in Germany. User account information and passwords are stored on the server and are bcrypt-hashed for maximum security. 

All communication between a user's device, Cloud portal, and Airtame devices are TLS (Transport Layer Security) encrypted. Communication between the Airtame device and Cloud Portal uses standard WebSocket communication established by the device.

The information sent about an Airtame device is restricted to non-sensitive information like basic device settings, which means that no passwords are ever sent over the internet.

Q: What about the Digital signage apps images sent to Airtame cloud?

A: For users using the "Screens" feature to get an overview of their Airtame's home screens, here is additional information on images captured of a device's home screen. 

• Images are only sent to cloud accounts that have enabled Digital signage apps.

• You can disable the sharing of images of a device's home screen for each device individually.

• Images are stored in AWS (Amazon Web Services).

• Each Image sent is stored for one minute and then deleted permanently.
