Screen sharing performance relies on three components: the computer, the network, and the Airtame. To achieve optimal performance, it's advisable to optimize each component.
- A fast computer with a good network card gives the best result.
- Older operating systems will not be able to give the best performance.
- Badly maintained computers that have full hard drives and many apps running will not give a good performance.
- Cloud apps like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive can hog the network connection.
- Make sure that only the necessary apps are running in the background of your PC.
- Make sure that the WiFi signal the PC is getting is > -60dBm.
- Avoid running network heavy tasks such as downloads and uploads while streaming to Airtame.
- Avoid using "Manual Mode" - unless your network connection is perfect.
- Packet loss due to poor signal strength and WiFi interference are the most common culprits of sub-optimal streaming.
- Even "great" networks have bottlenecks. Being new doesn't guarantee optimal streaming.
- A network is only as good as its slowest component. It's wise to keep equipment updated.
- Client balancing across APs is important. If a single AP has more than 10 clients, consider enabling QoS. Schools MUST enable QoS.
- Perform ping tests to Airtame devices during peak hours to understand if your network's lag is good (<3ms).
- Test and ensure that neither the streaming device nor Airtame gets a signal below -60dBm ( -50dBm for 2.4GHz networks) from anywhere in the location. Airtame can be hard-wired if needed.
- Make sure that the channels being used by your Access Points are the least saturated.
- Setup QoS for video.
- Keep an eye on the signal strength shown in Airtame.cloud, in case an AP goes down.
- Airtame 2 requires around 2-2.5 Amps, and Airtame 1 requires 1 Amp. Anything less means weaker WiFi which leads to information going missing an increased delay during a presentation.
- A reboot will always freshen up an Airtame and make it perform better.
- Disable Airtame's APs (if not needed) to avoid additional interference in the room.
- Place the Airtame closer to the nearest AP by using the HDMI extender (relevant to Airtame 1 only) and the closest HDMI port to the AP (relevant to both Airtame 1 and 2).
- Use Ethernet wherever possible to further reduce interference.
