Airtame is a device typically placed in an office or a classroom. It is plugged into a display and usually stays in that same location.

But there are some use cases where you might need to move Airtame to another location (permanently or temporarily), or use Airtame as a portable streaming device, which means the device is often changing location.
In order to achieve these setups, there are several different options in which Airtame can be connected to another network or not connected to a network at all.

Note: We recommend that the Airtame device (both Airtame 1 and Airtame 2) is plugged into a wall socket using the AC adapter, to make sure that the device is receiving enough power and is operating optimally.

Option 1 - Change to the local network of the new location

If you have moved Airtame to a different location or are taking the Airtame for a remote presentation, you might need to connect it to the local network of a new location

We always recommend having Airtame connected to a local network. The stability and quality of the streaming highly depends on the connection from Airtame to the network.

To re-connect or change the WiFi network configured for your Airtame device:

  1. Open the available WiFi list of your computer
  2. Connect to the WiFi named the same as the Airtame
  3. Open the Airtame application
  4. The name of your Airtame should appear on the list
  5. Hover the mouse over the device's name to see and access the settings
  6. Scroll down to the Network section
  7. Select the WiFi network and insert the password
  8. Click on "Apply changes"

Note: If the device's own hotspot is not visible on your computer's list of available WiFi connections, you can reactivate the hotspot by holding the button on the device for 3 seconds.

Option 2 - Connect the Airtame device to a 4G WiFi router

If you use Airtame at different locations as a portable streaming device, it might be troublesome or not always possible to connect the Airtame device to the local WiFi of the new location. In this case you might consider connecting the Airtame device to a portable 4G LTE WiFi Router, that you can also take with you.

When using this setup Airtame will automatically connect to the 4G WiFi Router whenever it is turned on and available, unless you have manually changed the network settings.

  1. If you need to change the connection of an already setup Airtame device (with a name and an existing network connection) and connect the Airtame device to the WiFi router instead, please look at the steps in Option 1 above.
  2. If you wish to connect your Airtame device to the network of the 4G WiFi router during the initial setup, here is how you can do that:  Setup guide for Airtame 1 / Setup guide for Airtame 2

Option 3 -  Connect the Airtame device to a mobile hotspot

For cases where Airtame is used as a portable streaming device, but there is no possibility to connect it to the local network and you don't have a portable WiFi router (as mentioned above), another option would be to use a mobile phone with the possibility of creating a hotspot and connect the Airtame to that hotspot

The hotspot function on a mobile phone is not as powerful as a real router and may cause unstable connection. Also, having multiple Airtames connected to the hotspot will not be possible due to this limitation.
Some mobile hotspots do not allow communications between connected devices, which might cause streaming not to work. Please keep in mind that the maximum range is 30 feet/10m.

When using this setup Airtame will automatically connect to the mobile hotspot whenever it is turned on and available, unless you have manually changed the network settings.

  1. If you need to change the connection of an already setup Airtame device (with a name and an existing network connection) and connect the Airtame device to the mobile hotspot instead, please look at the steps in Option 1 above.
  2. If you wish to connect your Airtame device to the network of the mobile hotspot during the initial setup, here is how you can do that:  Setup guide for Airtame 1 / Setup guide for Airtame 2

Option 4 - Connect directly to Airtame's own Access Point

In some use cases there is no option to connect Airtame to any network (local network at the new location, WiFi router nor a mobile hotspot).

In these situations, you can still stream to Airtame by connecting directly to the Airtame's own Access Point, but you will not have Internet access.

How to connect to the Access Point:

  1. Open the WiFi list of your computer or mobile device.
  2. You will be able to see the name of your Airtame device and select it.
  3. Open the Airtame app, your device should show up automatically on the list.
  4. Start streaming by selecting "Share screen" or "Share window".

Note: If the device's own hotspot is not visible on your computer's list of available WiFi connections, you can reactivate the hotspot by holding the button on the device for 3 seconds.

Airtame’s own ad-hoc wireless network does not provide Internet access, but it provides a direct link between your connected device and the Airtame. This allows a user to share local content from the streamed from device to the Airtame in a direct peer-2-peer link.

Use 5GHz for best streaming performance and 2.4GHz for longest range. Please keep in mind that the maximum range is 30 feet/10m and that you should try to be in direct line with Airtame device to avoid possible interference from other devices or physical objects.
